Best of the Best Championships September 2008 Report.
It was an early start because the Black Belt fighting sections were held first. Pat White, the competition organiser, planned to run these sections first so that the Black Belts would help to referee once they were finished competing. Trying to get a Black Belt to referee just before they are due to compete would be like asking Eminem not to curse. It’s not going to happen! The kids sections were held a little bit late but everything was finished by 6pm, which as competitions go is early. Declan Kidd and I remember leaving some competitions at 11.30 at night and that was after having to register at 9am!
As per usual, we had a great turn out. Everyone fought very well and the improvement from all MAI competitors at each competition is very evident. If we charted the progress on a graph, there would be a large arrow pointing upwards. There were a few sections where Team MAI took home a couple of placings e.g. Black Belt Men’s Continuous; 1st, 2nd & 3rd.
Our Black Belts & a couple of our brown belts got stuck in refereeing and did a super job. Everybody noticed that the standard of refereeing was better than ever before and it can only be directly attributed to our involvement.
It was very hard to keep track of the results because so many of the sections were held at the same time. Please let me know if there are any inaccuracies or omissions.

Congratulations to everyone who took part. Thank you to everyone who supported. There is plenty of room for more members to get in on the action and to start to compete alongside us. We look forward to the day that we have an army of 100+ MAI members competing. To make it easier for everyone to start and to give even more experience to our current members, we are delighted to be running ‘The Battle of the Dojo 7’ on Sunday 12th October 2008 at our D.15 Dojo. This is our very own club competition and a chance to compete in a friendly environment and to meet other MAI members. Please attend to show your support even if you are not competing.
